Meet Derek Cooper
Theologian, author, and global leader in Christian formation and discipleship.
Dr. Derek Cooper is the founder of Thomas Institute and the author of nearly 20 books on Christian formation, church history, and world religions.
Derek has traveled to more than 80 countries and has been involved in leadership roles at Christian organizations for more than 15 years. His global perspective shapes everything he writes and teaches — bringing the richness of the worldwide church to bear on the deeply personal question of how each of us is uniquely wired to connect with God.
Drawing on insight from the Bible, church history, personal experiences with Christians around the globe, and as a pastor and teacher, Derek developed the DiscipleType framework to give every believer a language for their spiritual life — and a path toward deeper, more authentic relationship with God.
Derek earned a PhD in religion, an MBA in management, and an MDiv in biblical studies. His YouTube channel, Thomas Institute, features hundreds of videos filmed in the lands of the Bible.
