How More than One DiscipleType?
If you've taken the DiscipleType assessment or read through the 14 types, you might have caught yourself nodding along to more than one description.
You might think, "I love sitting down with a thick commentary to study ancient biblical context—does that make me a Scripturalist? But wait, whenever I'm talking to a stranger at a coffee shop, I can't help but look for ways to share the gospel with them. Am I an Evangelist instead?"
Here's the good news: You don't have to choose.
While most believers have a single primary or default DiscipleType, it is incredibly common—and powerful—to have two or three dominant types operating in your life at the same time.
The Power of the Blend: Look at Billy Graham
Having multiple strong DiscipleTypes isn't a sign of spiritual confusion; it's often where your most potent, unique kingdom impact lives.
Take Billy Graham, one of the most effective Christian leaders in modern history. If you map his ministry against the DiscipleType framework, he scored exceptionally high in two distinct areas:
- The Scripturalist: Billy Graham's hallmark phrase was famously, "The Bible says..." He was deeply anchored in the authority, study, and preservation of Scripture.
- The Evangelist: At the exact same time, his heart burned with an urgent passion to communicate the good news to millions of people outside the church walls, driving them toward conversion.
If he had only been a Scripturalist, he might have spent his life primarily in a classroom or research library. If he had only been an Evangelist without that grounded Scripturalist core, his message might have lacked the deep, enduring biblical anchor that gave his preaching such immense authority. It was the blend of those two types working together that created a powerful, lifelong ministry.
When "Opposites" Enrich Your Faith
Sometimes, your dominant types might even seem like direct opposites on the surface—and that is where things get really exciting.
- What if you are both a Rationalist (who loves logic, evidence, and clear theology) and a Supernaturalist (who expects God's tangible power and divine intervention)? You become a balanced believer who tests all things with wisdom while remaining open to the miraculous work of the Holy Spirit.
- What if you are both a Mysticist (who craves quiet inner contemplation) and an Activist (who mobilizes on the streets for social justice)? Your deep internal connection with God fuels your external fight for justice, keeping you from spiritual burnout.
These combinations are not contradictions. They are the signature of a mature, multi-dimensional faith.
How to Identify Your Blend
When you take the DiscipleType assessment, pay close attention not just to your top result, but to your top two or three scores. If two types are close in score, you likely operate with a genuine blend.
Ask yourself: In which two or three types do I feel the most spiritually alive? Where do I naturally invest my time, energy, and passion in my walk with God? The intersection of those answers is your unique DiscipleType blend.
Embrace the complexity. Your blend is not a problem to solve—it is a gift to steward.
